A PROVEN LEADER DOWNTOWN,
AND ACROSS TOWN
As president of the Apex Downtown Business Association, I worked to make downtown Apex a thriving place for small businesses, restaurants, and the local community. Partnering with business owners and town leaders, I helped push forward the Downtown Master Plan and Parking Study, bringing in nearly $25 million in new investments along Salem Street, from TapStation to the Highline Building. Serving on the Downtown Plan steering committee, I’ve been part of the team shaping new parking solutions, now under construction, and planning future improvements like wider sidewalks, street trees, and better streetscapes—making downtown Apex more accessible, welcoming, and vibrant for everyone.

SHANE HAS WORKED ON MULTIPLE PROJECTS TO HELP OUR TOWN THRIVE:

Working with downtown businesses to successfully pass Town Council revisions to the Central Business District UDO, protecting retail and dining spaces along Salem Street.
Partnering with the Apex Police Department to install a pedestrian crossing signal at Salem and Saunders, making downtown safer for all.
Collaborating with Apex Economic Development to bring new collaborative business hubs like the co-working station above Wake Remodeling.
Leading efforts to improve downtown parking signage and reduce “parking anxiety” for visitors.
Helping launch the Town of Apex’s Small Business Emergency Loan Program to support local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Raising funds with local realtors to support downtown businesses while giving back to local teachers through gift cards during the pandemic.
Partnering with the Apex Chamber of Commerce and others to moderate small business briefings, connecting local businesses with essential resources.
While serving as a steering committee member for the Town of Apex’s 2045 Land Use and Transportation Plan, Shane was a strong advocate for building new parks, expanding greenways, increasing walkable mixed-use spaces, supporting transit options, and coordinating with the N.C. Department of Transportation to improve traffic flow – all while protecting Apex’s small-town spirit amid development pressures.
A graduate of Apex High and N.C. State, Shane has spent over 20 years leading communications and public outreach efforts for issues he believes in, from clean energy projects to highway safety initiatives. Shane and his wife Savannah are raising their three children – ages 13, 11, and 9 – here in Apex, where the kids proudly attend Wake County public schools.

"My goal is simple: to make local government work for everyone in Apex, so you can focus on what matters most – your family, your work, and your activities. Effective local government is where we put our heads together in a constructive way to figure out how we're going to fix that pothole or build that park, so people can enjoy Apex and get where they need to go – and if we don't have the jurisdiction to solve a challenge today, let’s find the right partners to get it done. It’s all about moving forward, one sidewalk and one fire engine at a time. This campaign is built on trust, respect, and a shared belief in collaboration – because when we come together as neighbors, we can achieve so much more."

DOWNTOWN PLAN PARKLET STUDY
During the summer of 2019, Shane joined a team of downtown volunteers to build the Parklet experiment as part of the Town of Apex Master Downtown Plan and Parking Study. The project created a welcoming space for residents and visitors to relax, connect, and enjoy all that our vibrant downtown has to offer—and Shane was proud to work alongside this incredible team to bring the parklet to life. Projects like these reflect Shane's commitment to fostering a welcoming, accessible, and thriving Apex where businesses flourish and residents feel connected.
